A Family Business is Born
Groome Transportation was founded by Harold V. Groome, Sr., to provide school bus transportation in Henrico County, near Richmond, Virginia.
Airport Shuttles Launched
Service to Richmond International Airport, formerly Richard E. Byrd Field, began in an effort to better serve the growing Richmond community while better capitalizing on the increased use of air travel.
Military Transport Added to Richmond-Area Services
In the 1950s, Groome Transportation’s operational focus grew to include service from Byrd Field to Fort Lee and Fort Pickett and to several other locations within the city of Richmond.
Expansion Through Diversification
The company’s offerings changed significantly in the1960s. Groome Transportation diversified and also operated a fleet of 18-wheelers and freight docks as well as a rental car company.
Georgia Joins the Fleet
Groome Transportation began providing shuttle service between Macon, Warner Robins, Robins Air Force Base and Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. The company operates out of a state-of-the-art facility with ample complimentary customer parking. Today, the company provides 27 round trips a day.
Groome Transportation began providing shuttle service between Columbus/Fort Benning and the Atlanta airport. The company now provides 36 round trips between the area and Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, every day.
Chattanooga Adds Expanded Service Area
Groome Transportation of Tennessee was established in Chattanooga in 2005 with the acquisition of Express Shuttle, which had been providing transportation to the Atlanta and Nashville airports since 1995. The Chattanooga operation provides an expanded schedule to both airports with 19 round trips daily to and from Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and 10 round trips daily to and from Nashville International Airport.
Classic City Added and New Warner Robins Facility Opens
Groome Transportation expanded to begin in Athens, Ga., with 24-hour-a-day shuttle services to Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Soon thereafter, the company acquired a long-time provider, AAA Airport Shuttle, and now provides 19 round trips every day.
Also in 2011, a new operating center was opened near I-75 in Warner Robins to better serve the area and Warner Robins AFB.
Groome Expands to Augusta
Groome Transportation expands again with the acquisition of Easy Ride Shuttle Service of Augusta. The company now provides 15 round trips every day to and from Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
Auburn Adds Atlanta Airport Service
Groome Transportation’s Auburn, Ala., operation expanded to provide daily shuttle services to and from Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, and now provides 12 round trips every day.
